Not Just A Flesh Wound

The degree of damage to living tissue a tree can sustain and then heal around enough to thrive is astonishing. I’ve seen 5/6 of the way around chewn right through, thinking that three is a goner, but no.

This one, though … on a crisp, clear December afternoon jumping straight into traffic really didn’t appeal, so down by the river I went, and saw something I had never seen before, sap icicles.

Probably a dog scared the beaver off. Not that the city would have let a dam be built on that stretch of the river. Big sigh.
